About Where to stay in Formentera: the back story

Formentera has no airport and no big resorts. Most hotels are small and close to the sea: in and around Es Pujols on the north coast, along the long beach of Migjorn in the south, at Cala Saona in the west and in the villages of Sant Francesc and Sant Ferran. Many open only for the season, from spring to autumn.

Es Pujols

Five Flowers Hotel & Spa is a five-star hotel on Calle Fonoll Marí in Es Pujols, a short walk from the beach. Hostal Mayans is on Carrer Punta Prima in the same resort (the hotels’ own websites).

Migjorn and Es Caló

Along the south coast, Gecko Hotel & Beach Club stands on the beach at Ca Marí, and Dunas de Formentera, managed by Marugal, sits among the dunes of Migjorn. At the eastern end, Teranka is on the road to La Mola at Es Arenals, by Es Caló de Sant Agustí.

Most hotels on the island open only from spring to autumn: check the dates before you plan.

Cala Saona

Hotel Cala Saona & Spa overlooks the cove of the same name on the west coast; its restaurant Sol Post is led by the chef Ramón Freixa.

The villages

Hotel Es Marès is in Sant Francesc, the island’s capital; Can Tres is in the countryside on the Camí de Can Simonet; Hostal Pepe is in Sant Ferran.

Good value

Hostal La Savina is by the port where the ferries arrive; Hostal Mayans in Es Pujols and Hostal Pepe in Sant Ferran are family-scale addresses for a simpler stay.

Choosing a base

Es Pujols suits evenings out and the north-coast beaches; Migjorn suits long beach days; the villages suit cyclists; La Savina suits a first or last night by the ferry.

Our advice: stay on one coast and cycle to the other. On Formentera, nothing is far.
